You Are Worthy of Divine's Love, Irrespective of Who You Are.

Updated: Aug 16
I was just three inches away from being sprawled on the ground with broken legs and a concussion ~ possibly much worse than that.
It was about 7pm.
That evening, after the last session I held for the day, I craved a simple dinner ~ just some roti, akin to pita bread, with dipping sauce.
I was in a familiar, friendly neighbourhood I had visited for many years. Before crossing the four-lane brick-paved road, I noticed the nearest oncoming car in the lane closest to me was about three cars away, moving at a safe speed. It was a white car, and there were no other vehicles in the next lane.
So I started to cross.
As I was reaching the second lane, I suddenly spotted a dark blue-grey car accelerating towards me.
It was speeding up very, very fast. So fast that it overtook the white car.
I could hear the loud roar of the engine, as though someone had slammed on the accelerator and continued pressing hard on it. I could hear the tyres rolling rapidly against the brick road as the car came closer.
Everything happened so fast, yet time felt strangely slow. It was as though I was having a long thought process inside my head within only a few seconds. Even my body felt like it was moving slowly.
As I started to run, I remember thinking:
Oh my God, what is this person doing ? It’s coming right at me. I’m going to get hit hard. It’s going to hurt so much. I don’t want to get hurt. Should I run forward or backward ?
For a moment, I felt trapped. The only thing visible within my focus was that dark blue-grey car, which seemed to be coming directly towards me. It was getting so close that I thought, I won’t make it.
But I ran.
I ran as fast as I possibly could, screaming my body and lungs out for my life.
As I neared the pavement, the car swerved, stopping just inches from my left leg.
All I could think was:
Oh my God. Oh my God. That was really close.
I’m safe.
I’m safe.
Thank you.
A surge of relief washed over me.
I stood on the pavement, still in shock, processing what had just happened. Something made me turn around to look at the car.
It had moved slightly forward between the lanes, and the driver was staring at me. I could not see his face clearly because he was wearing a surgical mask, but I could feel the intensity of his energy and see the defensiveness in his body language. His hair was reddish-brown, a colour I could tell was not natural. He was alone in the car.
I felt furious. It felt as though he had deliberately accelerated towards me for some reason I could not understand.
I gestured with my hands:
“What was that all about ? You almost hit me !”
He gestured back angrily.
Feeling completely baffled, I left the scene and walked into the restaurant where I had intended to have dinner.
As I replayed the incident in my mind, I wondered whether he was somehow punishing me for not crossing at the traffic light a few metres down the road. I wondered whether I had done something wrong.
A part of me even wondered whether it was somehow my fault that I had nearly been hit by a car that suddenly accelerated towards me.
As I was about to be seated, still shaken, suddenly, a man was standing beside me.
“Are you okay ?”
I turned around to see a gentleman looking genuinely concerned.
He repeated, “Are you okay ? I saw what happened. Are you okay ?”
“I’m okay, thank you for asking. But yes, I’m shaken. That was crazy. I was less than three inches away from getting my legs broken.”
“I know, I saw. I came in to check on you. Initially I thought you were here to meet someone, then I realised you were alone. Are you okay ? Should I stay or leave ? Do you need someone to accompany you for a while ?”
“Yes, I’m here alone. I was just going to have a bite before getting on my laptop to do some work. But yes, stay. I don’t mind the company.”
His name was akin to the first name of one of the greatest British Michelin-starred chefs.
As we settled into dinner and conversation, he agreed that it was normally a safe neighbourhood. He crossed that same spot every day, he told me, and nothing like that had ever happened before.
Still, part of me kept questioning the incident. But another part of me felt something entirely different. I felt that I had escaped something terrible because the Divine ~however one chooses to understand or name it ~was protecting me.
I felt as though my guardian angels had nudged my body to run forward instead of freezing or retreating, while somehow the car swerved at the very last second.
More than anything, I felt grateful. And deeply loved.
You see, I come from mixed parentage, and I was born into a religion closely tied to a particular race in my country. Within the culture surrounding this religion are certain expectations, reflected partly through outward appearances ~ particularly in how women are expected to dress. And my way of dressing is far from it. My worthiness has been questioned many times by staunch believers.
I have been met with cynical scoffs and questions like:
“Do you actually think God really loves you when you are as you are ?”
“When you dress that way ?”
“Do you think you’re blessed ?”
And there's the debate on how one should pray...
As I left the restaurant that night, I was extra cautious with every step. I waited much longer than usual, making sure the road was completely clear before crossing. While I stood on the pavement, the driver of the first passing car stopped and insisted on giving way for me to cross.
Later, as I was pulling out of my parking spot into the main street, it happened again.
Another car stopped and gave way.
It felt like God was saying:
No.
It was not your fault.
You are loved.
You are protected.
And indeed I am.
I am loved, blessed, guided and protected by the Divine.
For this, I feel deeply grateful.
And if there is anything I wish for you to take from this story, it is this:
You are worthy of Divine Love irrespective of your belief system, regardless of what society tells you and of the conditions human beings place around worthiness. Regardless of how many times we are taught that Love must somehow be earned, as though Love were a commodity handed only to those who behave correctly.
Divine Love is not a commodity.
Love, in its purest form, is not something you earn by becoming more acceptable. You are deserving of Love simply because you exist...and we exist for one reason, and that is to experience Divinity and the Divine Love that encompasses all being. And that can only be experienced only by being who you truly are.
We are, after all, extensions of the Purest Unconditional Love itself. The All Encompassing, The Field, The Divine.
Love, Evolve, Transcend

Miza
